Augmentation mammoplasty results

It's good to see you at Czech Republic Plastic Surgery Clinic!

You naturally feel good about yourself when you can wear a close-fitting top with confidence - or choose a bra because it's pretty, not just because it fits.

Many women find that the size and shape of their breasts affects their self-confidence. If you feel that your breasts are out of proportion with the rest of your body, or that age or breastfeeding have caused them to shrink or lose their shape, a Augmentation Mammoplasty surgery can help you.

Augmentation Mammoplasty is a surgery designed to enlarge the breasts. This Augmentation Mammoplasty surgery is frequently sought by women who are unhappy with the small size of their breasts, sometimes after pregnancy or weight loss.

If you're considering Augmentation Mammoplasty with breast implants, the following information will provide you with a good introduction to the procedure.

Augmentation Mammoplasty is usually quite successful at making the breasts larger and fuller. The results may not look exactly like "natural" larger breasts; with breast implants, breasts tend to be a bit more round and less saggy than natural breasts of the same size. But most women find these differences as improvement.

Show your doctor pictures of breast sizes you like. Doctor will be able to determine which size breast implants will achieve your preferred size.

Breast implants are used to make your breasts larger, firmer and fuller. Breast implants are available in a variety of shapes, types and sizes and are usually made of an outer layer of silicone, filled with either silicone gel or salt water (saline).

Although several breast implants are available at the present time, the implant being used for nearly all Augmentation Mammoplasty surgeries are saline breast implants.

These saline breast implants are made of a silicone rubber sack filled with a saline solution. Under certain conditions, such as reconstructive surgery, silicone breast implants can be used instead.

During the Augmentation Mammoplasty operation your surgeon may make cuts under your breast, around your nipples or near your armpits. The implants are inserted through the cuts, increasing the size and altering the shape of your breasts.

An incision may be made in any one of the following places: the crease below the breast, around the areola, under the armpit, or, very rarely, through the navel.

Augmentation Mammoplasty consists of making an incision, lifting the breast tissue, creating a pocket in the chest/breast area, and placing an envelope containing a soft, natural feeling implant material underneath (breast implant).

The breast implants can be placed either under the chest muscle or directly under the breasts. Placement considerations include the anatomy of your breasts, soreness after surgery, exercise activities and interference with mammograms.

Augmentation Mammoplasty surgery usually takes about one to three hours to complete. The length of the procedure varies according to the technique used, the placement of the implants, the patient's anatomy, and type of anesthesia used.

When you wake up you will feel tired, sore, and stiff. It is important to take the medication prescribed to you by your doctor.

After Augmentation Mammoplasty your breasts will be wrapped with gauze bandage as well as a tighter bandage for protection and support afer Augmentation Mammoplasty surgery. You also may have drainage tubes coming out of the incision for several days, to help drain some of the excess fluid.

Rest is important to the healing process, so do it as much as possible following your procedure. Drink plenty of fluids, and be sure to take the doctor's prescribed medications.

After several days, the gauze dressing will be removed. You may be required to wear a support bra to help your breasts form and maintain a pleasing, balanced shape. You may or may not be able to shower, depending on where your stitches are.

Your scars will be pink for several weeks. After several months they will begin to fade. You will probably be able to resume exercise and normal physical activities within a month or two, when the soreness has subsided.

Augmentation Mammoplasty makes the breasts larger for the life of the implant. Remember, also that larger breasts sag faster than smaller breasts, and augmented breasts do this as well.

It is possible that you may require surgery in later years to correct sagging if you choose to have large implants. Gravity, unfortunately has no exceptions.

Woman breast implants

The advantages of placing the breast implant above the muscle includes less discomfort post-operatively, less swelling, and less chance that the breast will appear to move when you are exercising your upper body.

If your breast implants are under the muscle, then when you flex your pectoralis muscles (as you often do during workouts), your breasts may appear to move.

Placing the implants under the muscle is more cushion between the implant and skin. In general, thin and small-breasted women are probably better off with implants under the muscle.

Placement of the implants under the muscle has few drawbacks, many of which are temporary. The discomfort after surgery can be heightened along with more swelling. You may also find that your breast appears to move when you are exercising your upper body.

Thin, small-breasted, athletic women must weigh the options. You need to realize that many women who work out (and even some professional female athletes) have implants under the muscle and are very happy with their appearance.

By implant surface, plastic surgeons are referring to whether the implant is smooth or textured. Once the implants are in place under your breasts, it is impossible to tell whether you have smooth or textured implants.

A smooth implant is just that - as smooth as the surface of a balloon. Textured implants are rough, somewhat like sandpaper.

Textured implants were developed because plastic surgeons thought that they would be less likely to cause capsular contractures.

Unfortunately, studies have not shown a consistent advantage of textured implants over smooth when it comes to capsular contractures.

ou might be thinking that (of course) teardrop implants would be better. However, most plastic surgeons disagree.

The most plastic surgeons think that teardrop implants tend to become round with the forces of healing and that the teardrop implants do not necessarily give a better result.

Plastic surgeons find that teardrop implants may rotate, giving an unnatural appearance, and they impose restrictions in that they must be textured.

Because plastic surgeons tend to recommend the techniques that work best in their hands, you should heed the advice of your plastic surgeon in this matter.

Volume is the all-important size issue. Breast implants come in all sizes with the most common sizes ranging from 200-600 cc (cubic centimeter; is the same as a ml (milliliter)).

Although the range, 300-450cc is probably the most common, the decision is highly personal and highly individualized. You must have input in this decision and you must feel comfortable with your size.

The best way to determine your size is by placing breast implant sizers (your plastic surgeon will hopefully have them) in your bra and then put a sweater, blouse, or t-shirt on (or, perhaps try all of them, as you will appear different in each).

What if a woman wants a breast implant that has a larger volume than would be considered proportionate (by breast implant manufacturer standards) for her breast diameter, chest wall size, and body frame?

In case placing a standard implant would risk an unnatural result, because it would be too wide for her body frame and would likely also extend too high and too low on her chest wall. In these cases, a High Profile implant is recommended.

With a high profile implant, the volume is the same, but the diameter (footprint) is narrower and the projection (the amount that it sticks out away from your body) is greater.

Although all women want a natural look and feel, women with larger breasts can often achieve this with saline implants. Women with smaller breasts typically cannot.
